Meet Sanford Barnett
Sanford Barnett has been playing Guitar for 30 years. He began studying at the age of ten in a local Stamford, Connecticut music store, Connecticut Music.
Throughout high school he participated and played in after school bands comprised of his brother and other friends. “We just wanted to have fun, and there was nothing more fun than writing our own songs and playing the songs that we loved listening to!”
Following graduation from high school, Sanford began studying at Sonoma State University where he earned a B.A. in Jazz Studies. He then went on to pursue a masters degree in Jazz Studies from the prestigious private school, Cal Arts located in Los Angeles.
Sanford has been teaching and performing professionally since 1989. He was recently the director of jazz curriculum and instruction at the Marin School of Art and Technology, a charter school of the Novato Unified School District, until its closing in the summer of 2007.
Currently Sanford is teaching private lessons and performing regularly in Marin and San Francisco.
Teaching Method
Sanford enjoys teaching all styles of guitar, beginning guitar, and intermediate & advanced jazz-guitar. Each lesson is tailored to the musical needs and desires of the student with an emphasis on the fundamentals. He can teach beginning to intermediate fingerstyle and up to advanced levels in other genres, especially jazz. Sanford strives to provide his students with opportunities to play with others and in front of live audiences.
