Meet Scott Lawrence
Scott’s students say:
“My 9-year-old daughter had never taken piano prior to working with Scott. She takes lessons remotely on Zoom, which has been very easy, safe and incredibly flexible for me. I don't have to drive anywhere! She is learning how to read music and play songs while having so much fun. Scott is patient, kind and creative in his teaching style. Thank you to Scott!” - Kimberly T.
“For my 21st birthday I decided to learn an instrument and bought a keyboard. I've been working with Scott for almost 9 months now. I wasn't a fan of online school, but piano lessons are very convenient and work very well over the medium of Zoom. Scott was suggested to me by a friend, for his amazing ear. If you bring a song off the radio or movie, he'll be able to figure it out and play it in just a few minutes and begin teaching it to you! By doing this I've been able to learn music theory and how to build chords.” - Leo R.
Meet Scott Lawrence:
Scott believes in the importance of learning the basics and developing a firm grounding in reading and basic technique. Currently he has students from ages 6 to 60, from beginners to advanced.
Scott started playing piano at age eight and was performing blues and rock in junior high and high school. He began working as a professional pianist at age 19, which led to a successful career in performing, recording, and touring. After becoming enamored with the jazz music of Dave Bruebeck, Scott went on to earn a Masters Degree in Jazz Studies from North Texas State. He has played all popular styles professionally in small clubs, theaters, and international venues including Carnegie Hall, Oakland Coliseum, and Wembley Stadium in London, England. Scott has performed with famous artists such as Jesse Colin Young, Country Joe, Norton Buffalo, Barry Melton, Malo, and Mary Wells. His piano performances in Rock, Blues, Jazz, Pop, and Latin appear on over 25 albums. Scott played with Jesse Colin Young on seven albums on Warner Brothers.
Scott helps students improve music reading and sight-reading. He can teach how to transcribe tunes off recordings from any genre. For example, his students have had fun learning popular hit tunes and even themes from video games. Scott is an expert in Jazz theory, harmony, chords and improvisation, and how to use "Fake Books” (books with just melody lines and chord symbols).

At this time, Scott is only teaching over Zoom or other virtual platforms.
“Thank you for a great year of piano. Cormac really enjoys your teaching and you have reignited him. He was definitely losing his interest before he met you. I love to see his pride in what he is accomplishing week after week, and that is because of you!” Lisa S.
“I thoroughly enjoy my piano lessons with Scott. He’s flexible in moving between technique and theory and exploring many musical genres. His thorough knowledge and easy going teaching style make our lessons both fascinating and fun. Meeting on Zoom works great — it takes nothing away from the quality of our work together.” Daphne B.
“I am a busy professional who loves to play in a local dad band. Scott has been teaching me piano for over a decade. He is a fantastic musician with the uncanny ability to make it simple. He is a wonderful teacher and even a better person. I unequivocally recommend Scott to anybody that wants to learn to rock!” Todd S.
