For musicians, buying the instrument is only the beginning. Most musical instruments require other equipment to function, like electric guitars and basses. To get the most out of those instruments, you'll need an amplifier. Bananas at Large® has the selection of top-quality guitar amps you need to find the right one for you.

Tips for Picking the Right Amp

It's easy to get a little overwhelmed when you're looking for new guitar amplifiers for sale. There are so many different brands and types that it can be difficult to tell how to get the right one. Here are some of our tips on picking out the perfect guitar amp for your needs:

  • Bring Your Guitar: If you're shopping for your amp in person, make sure you bring your guitar to test them out. It might seem a little cumbersome, but you'll be better able to make the right decision — and you should get used to carrying your axe around, anyway! You may love the sound of one amp using one of the store's guitars, but it could sound entirely different than your guitar.
  • Identify Which Features You Need: Guitar amps range from pretty simple to complex. If you're mainly looking for a more straightforward amp that will give you a clean, crisp sound, you don't need one with all kinds of bells and whistles. But, if you're looking for an amplifier with all sorts of features, a more elaborate option would better suit your needs.
  • Consider the Sound You Want to Make: Different parts of an amplifier will alter the guitar or bass's sound in different ways. Will you be using the amp for recording or performing? Or, is this an amp that will live in your basement solely for practicing purposes? Thinking about the type of sound you need will help you figure out what kind of amp you need.
  • Invest in Other Accessories: Once you have your amp, you'll still need some other accessories before you can get back to playing. At the very least, you'll need an auxiliary cable to connect your guitar to the amplifier. If you're going with a tube amplifier, you'll need the tube component, as well as the actual amplifier. If you're a performer, an amp stand can help lift the amp up to project the sound where you want it to go.
